Too Many Feelings
I’m probably the 1247081740871 blogger to write a post about Barack Obama being chosen the 44th President of the United States, but you know what? So what. It should be expected from me that I would write something about it. There are a million things running through my head concerning Barack. Well, maybe not a million, more like 10-20.
1. A BLACK PRESIDENT. Sure I went to Morehouse College and I was engulfed in the struggle of the African-American race. There were always debates on whether my generation is connected with the Civil Rights generation. We argued about whether every single cause, triumph or struggle in today’s time should be linked towards that particular movement or the plight of the African-American in the United States in general. I eventually became jaded from being immersed in an environment of “causes”. Maybe, being in a college environment where students will make a big movement for nothing, I took the lessons about our struggle for granted. However, after continuously seeing black leader after black leader that I respect talk about the struggle once again, I started to reminisce about particular experiences where I empathized with African-Americans (I mean I am one, too)that put me where I am today. I realized that the scope of his achievement is huge for the African-American race. I mostly think about MLK’s famous speech. If you don’t know what I’m talking about please go back under the rock. This is his dream realized.
2. GREAT CAMPAIGN – It was a formula for success. Obama looked at the current state of America and used simple logic for his advantage. He knew the GOP wasn’t favorable amongst struggling Americans. He knew that people wanted a person who would inspire change with complex solutions described in Layman’s terms. I could describe and talk about all of Obama’s platform points based on the way he laid it out for average people. David Plouffe(campaign manager) is a campaign genius. He constructed a campaign based around Barack’s vision and used simple things such as e-mails to keep people interested in his candidate. Obama’s speechwriter is a 20-something year old!! He also chose Biden who really to me, should be running for President. He has just as much experience in the Senate as John McCain but didn’t brag about his history as he did. He ran a campaign that didn’t use slander in any way shape or form. No American wanted to see that, even though his opponents used it against him.
3. The Future – The night I crossed into my fraternity my prophyte said “It’s harder to be Greek than it is to become one.” I am concerned for the future. When I saw he won, I wasn’t too shocked. It was projected a week in advance. I want him to keep all his promises because they will work. The real challenge starts for Barack now. The campaign doesn’t matter. Sure people will write political campaign strategies based on it but will they write ones about Barack being a great president? I’m interested to see who his cabinet is and the advisors he keeps around him. I like how he put his 4 more years plug in his speech last night.
